Masta Ace is a legend who keeps coming with fire. He is the only member of the Juice crew to continue making dope music at a high level and I think a lot of that is because he is a master of the concept album. From “Disposable arts” to “long hot summer” ace has carved a niche in a type of storytelling that lends itself perfectly to album length narratives and “The falling season” continues the trend. “The falling season” covers the highschool period of Aces life and speaks to a time in a individual life when they can make small mistakes as we all do and still recover. He employs the production of kic beats who worked previously with EMC the lyrical super group that Masta Ace is a part of. He makes beats in that soulful boombap lane without the samples but still comes across with that sample vibe which is dope and perfect for Ace. “The falling season” is masterful as he pulls you into his world making you feel like this view of the 80s is right now. The list of features on this effort is also amazing Chuck D, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Cormega, AG of DITC fame, Your Old Droog, Wordsworth, Stricklin, The World’s Famous Supreme Team, Queen Herawin of the Juggaknots, Pearl Gates and Pav Bundy. I love every song on this jawn and that is saying a lot but my overall favs are “Young black intelligent”,”Mr Bus Driver”,”High School Shit”,Nana. This album is another example of the fact dope hip-hop is timeless and never dies….ENJOY!
